Doula

DONA Birth Doula Training

A trained birth doula provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to birthing individuals and their families before, during, and after childbirth. They offer non-medical assistance such as comfort measures, coping techniques, and advocacy to ensure the birthing person feels empowered and supported throughout their labor and delivery experience. Doulas aim to enhance the birthing person’s sense of control and confidence, while also fostering positive communication with medical staff to facilitate a more informed and satisfying birth experience.

Atoosa is a DONA certified birth doula trainer.  Training workshops are held year-round.  Workshops are 24 hours in length and fulfill 2 of the requirements for DONA birth doula certification- the doula training portion and the 8 hour childbirth education class.  The Breastfeeding For Doulas class is taught separately from the workshop and is 4 hours in length.

Philosophy

As no two human beings live the same life journey, no two have the same birth journey.  Our arrival  is  as unpredictable as our journey.  It is the job of a midwife to welcome the incoming soul, to honor and protect the journey of the human entering this realm, as well as to protect and honor the journey of the person birthing.

Human beings are autonomous over decisions about their own bodies, as the body houses the soul.  Upon coming into this world, we are given an intuition, a knowing about what is right for us, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  It is the job of the midwife to educate, provide choices, and honor decisions people make about their bodies with skilled hands and watchful eyes.

Birth is to be honored. It is the day the soul begins its journey and the mother is transformed.
